City nature challenge

城市自然挑戰賽 (CNC) 於每年4月舉行，為期4天，匯聚全球多個城市共同進行，主辦單位為加州科學院及洛杉磯縣自然歷史博物館。參賽城市的居民只需利用免費應用程式 iNaturalist 為野生動植物拍攝照片，便可參與。自2016年起，已有越來越多城市參與此項全球盛事，這項比賽亦是香港最大型的生物多樣性公眾參與活動。

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is a global competition that draws together cities from around the world and organised the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. To compete, citizens of participants cities take photos of wild plants and animals on the free app iNaturalist over 4 days in April. More and more cities take part every year, and it is the largest collaborative biodiversity engagement exercise in Hong Kong.

iNaturalist

城市自然挑戰賽所使用的 iNaturalist 是一個眾包應用程式，讓使用者可上載不同物種的照片並標記地理位置，然後分享至全球資料庫，與全球各地的使用者鑑定物種。這亦是監察當地四周生物多樣性的極佳方法。另外亦可使用「SEEK by iNaturalist」，這應用程式較適合小學生使用，可透過參與不同挑戰獲取徽章。iNaturalist 及「SEEK by iNaturalist」 是加州科學院及國家地理學會的聯合項目，「SEEK by iNaturalist」由世界自然基金開發及支持。

City Nature Challenge will use iNaturalist, a crowd-sourcing app that allows users to upload geo-linked photographs of species to a global database where they can be identified by other users anywhere in the world. It is also an excellent way of monitoring the biodiversity in and around your area. ‘SEEK by iNaturalist’ can also be used. It works like iNaturalist but is more for primary school students as it includes challenges and badges. iNaturalist and ‘Seek by iNaturalist’ is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and National Geographic Society. ‘Seek by iNaturalist’ was developed with support from WWF.
